Beginning with the pear, in Renaissance times, a pear stood for “God’s love for man.” The apple stands for “the fall of Adam and Eve” in the garden. And the nails symbolize the death of Jesus on the cross and our redemption.

I was blessed to be present at one of his Angelus addresses in Rome, when I was studying art in Florence, Italy. As soon I as I heard his voice, tears welled up in my eyes. Little did I know that I was hearing the voice of a Saint. To me, I was hearing the words of a Father. JP2, we love you!

It is the love of the family— an icon of the Trinity - that Pope John Paul Il placed so much hope... this love of the domestic Church, so sacred and so strong, will bring about a renewal of our society, our country, of the world.
