He comes to us in stillness.

He comes to us in stillness.

By María Rangel Cardenas

In Christmastime, the Christ Child comes to us in quiet.

And yet, during this blessed time of year, our hearts are bombarded by distractions and a frenzy of gift-giving and holiday activities.

In the midst of it all, we are repeatedly drawn to the view of the quiet stable, the Christ Child in the arms of his Mother. There he shows us how to welcome him into our hearts this Christmas:

In holy silence.

In holy poverty.

In holy anticipation.

We must make room for him in our hearts by turning away from all that is distracting us. He came to us in poverty to show us that we need to rely on his Grace for everything. He wants our trust, our love.

Photo of a section of our Christmas tree. That little straw angel and the straw star are from a long-ago trip to Austria at Christmas time, and the Nativity image is an ornament that I have had since my 20's!

Trust & Hope

I had such a strong response from my last blog post, that I wanted to follow up with a Bible quotation and a prayer that have been so healing for me for fear and rejection:

“I know well the plans I have in mind for you,” says the Lord, “plans for your welfare, not for woe! plans to give you a future full of hope.” -Jeremiah 29:11

I pray that you will find comfort in knowing how much Our Heavenly Father loves you and is already working to answer the prayers you hold in your heart.

Christmas will be here very soon. And then, at last, we will be able to welcome our Infant Redeemer! Let us rejoice!

May you have a Merry Christmas!
